Objects made of plastic or paper disposed of as refuse in Nándor Angstenberger’s mixed media assemblages tell about pop and glamour. The supposedly ahistorical material becomes matter of visionary narratives. Even the smallest detail may become a fetish in these extensive architectures. As in real life there are paths to nowhere and niches for meditation, dark dungeons and happy closets for silent prayer. Angstenberger’s model-like productions are anarchic scenarios alternative to the presence, where imagination may roam freely. Angstenberger’s fragile sculptures refer to material assemblages of Dada, as to the manic blueprints of utopian worlds by outsider artists. Space concepts of baroque also are a basis for the work. His utopian architectures made of material being disposed of as refuse, may also be seen in the context of the discussion of “post-production” in the arts (Bourriaud). At PREVIEW BERLIN 2009 his sculptures and collages were be shown at a pedestal standing independently and quoting a classical monument.

His works, most of them were created in 2009, were shown in confrontation to a large-formatted wall made of upholstered reflecting-foil by Christel Fetzer, especially made for the open space show. The artist connects strategies of concrete and abstract art innovatively with those of social plastic. She thereby takes social conventions on ordering systems as a starting point, breaks them up and transforms them into a new order. Her wall-bound upholstered art pieces made of PVC-foils in the German RAL-colour system, she self-confidentally calls „compositions in colour“. At PREVIEW BERLIN 2009 Christel Fetzer presented a wall as composition of square, reflecting upholstered fields in different shades. The wooden construction on the backside displays the “making-of” of its spectacular front-side. The fragile white architectures by Nándor Angstenberger were mirrored, but also are other works in the space and finally – the viewer.
